43rd Annual National Head Start Conference and Expo

  • Gaylord Resort

"About the National Conference

NHSA’s 43rd annual National Head Start Conference and Expo is the largest national event devoted to the Head Start and Early Head Start community. From May 16th - 20th, more than 5,000 executive directors, directors, administrators, managers, teachers, policy council members, and parents from every state and territory will gather in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Head Start and Early Head Start community is driven like none other to provide opportunities for success in the lives of our nation’s vulnerable children. Every year the Head Start community pulls together to discuss the latest developments, innovations, and obstacles in early learning and to inspire ideas for turning challenges into opportunities.

Beginning Head Start’s 51st year, we enter a new phase in Head Start’s history - and we find ourselves in the spotlight more than ever. The 2016 national conference provides the perfect opportunity to turn our sights and our imaginations toward the future and explore ways to drive Head Start’s mission even farther!"

National Leadership Conference - Leadership Connections

Change is good—and we’ve gone first. This year marks the 15th anniversary of Leadership Connections and we’ve taken a hard look at how to improve the national conference for attendees, presenters, and exhibitors alike. Here are a few highlights of the improvements we’ve made:

  • New skill-building tracks and more session options: Participate in your choice of seven sessions from any themed track
  • Special Interest sessions: Spend 60 minutes learning about a specific tool or resource
  • Dine and Discuss: Join other professionals for sharing or planning over dinner. We book the restaurant; you choose your topic and your meal.

What will stay the same is the exceptional quality of this professional experience. Leadership Connections will continue to offer you an array of national experts who designed their sessions to connect current practices with innovative ideas.

The Leadership Challenge Workshop for Head Start Directors and Managers

  • Chicago, Il

"Do you aspire to achieve extraordinary things in your agency or community? Are you seeking an opportunity to acquire the tools for personal growth and leadership?Do you seek to promote a shared vision for your organization?

If you are, then this workshop is for you! Join us to explore “The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership,” James Kouzes & Barry Posner's evidence-based experiential model that starts with the premise that "leadership is everyone's business." As decades of their research have proven-and thousands of leadership case studies reveal - each of us has the capacity to lead and to make a difference. Our guiding principles include the belief that leadership development is self-development, that it takes practice, and that it is both an aspiration and a choice. Through a series of creative learning activities and exercises, this workshop will demystify the concept of leadership development and approach it as a measurable and learnable set of behaviors."
