The Healthy Food Bank Hub: What's In It For You?

Have you heard of the Healthy Food Bank Hub?  Do you think because it has “food bank” in the title it’s not for you?  That is where you’re mistaken!  This hub is for anyone who wants to learn more about healthy foods.  I hope that is you.

What Can You Get From This Website?

Learn about Healthy Food Distribution with tabs discussing MyPlate’s impact on Feeding America foods, how food is secured, how the food is stored and inventory is taken and of course how that food is distributed.  For Example, did you know that there is a focus on securing and distributing “Foods to Encourage” which are fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fat-free and low-fat dairy and lean protein.  As Feeding America, San Diego states “We believe the opposite of hungry is healthy, not full.” (Feeding America, San Diego, 2014).

There is also a Tools and Resources section in which you can search for recipes with a certain type of food in them or you can use the interactive apple word cloud.  The recipes are unique and healthy.  They’re compiled from a variety of resources and fun to look through.  Some have the costs per serving notated, others have complete nutritional facts!

Visit the website to learn about the food bank network, their goals and get some wonderful recipes and other nutritional resources to use for yourself.  Healthy Food Bank Hub

Samantha Marshall, M.A.

Samantha is, just like you, excited to make a difference in our community and our world. With a Master of Arts degree in English Literature, you might ask how she found herself building and writing for a website focused on child care. From 1995 through 2001, Samantha started her career working for Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) sponsors which introduced her to the importance of non-profits, community and quality child care. Her experience with Sponsors, State Officials, and Family Child Care Providers left a great and lasting impression. Later in her career and her most recent position at SAGE Publications, an academic publisher, was as a product manager for a new online resource! During this time many of Samantha's passions collided. A love for the written word, children and the proliferation of knowledge as well as a fascination with the resources the internet gives us, building a community for child care on ChildCareInfo.com is the perfect way to make the difference she wanted to. Needless to say, she is very excited to be an active part of creating and building ChildCareInfo.com.
