Why is the Vegetable Food Group Important?

 Everyone knows what vegetables are and the newest version  of MyPlate puts a huge  emphasis on increasing your veggie  intake.  But unfortunately, vegetables are the least  consumed  food group from MyPlate, yet they are so important for  our  body.  Vegetables  offer our bodies necessary vitamins and  minerals that can prevent cancer, heart disease,  stroke,  diabetes, and many other diseases caused by aging.  The best thing you can do for  your body is to eat 2 ½ - 3 cups per  day of a “rainbow of color” - red, green, orange, yellow, and purple vegetables.  Make it fun and pretty!  Read More>>

Fun Activity to Do with the Kids
Use a diagram to show the kids the parts of the vegetable plant.
Tell the children how vegetables grow when you make vegetable soup.  When they are eating the soup make an exploration out of it by asking them about the colors of the vegetables or ask them what it tastes like and have them name the vegetables in their bowl. Read More>>
