Using brown paint on our daykids hands and arm, we had the kids spread their fingers and made handprint/tree's and then had the kids, then we had the kids dip their finger tips in all different colors of paint discussing the colors and counting. We also talked about planting trees and how we can keep the air clean.

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

Had a day where all our activities were based on the book. We made red fish jello. Read the book One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. The kids made red fish or blue fish pictures using their hands. We enjoyed a snack of cheddar goldfish and pretzel goldfish.

Dr Suess Hats

We celebrated read across America all week with a Dr. Suess book and a theme to correspond to it. Day 1: We read the "Cat in the Hat" and made our own hat. Afterwards everyone chose a Dr. Suess story to look at and then we chose another story to read at storytime.
Day 2 For Green Eggs and Ham day we did a hypothesis about water and food. Would it taste different after adding the green food coloring.
Day 3 We read the Foot Book then counted all our feet. We traced both our feet decorated them and cut them out. They dictated a place they could walk to( store, park, school)and we glued one foot to that. The other foot we took outside and used their foot as a unit of measurement and measured things and recorded it.

The kids create a Dr. Seuss lunch!

This lunch started with an experiment using purple cabbage juice to turn the whites of the eggs green. However, our experiment was not successful. Determined to have green eggs and ham, we decided to use food coloring. The kids also decided we needed other Seuss inspired foods and began looking through Dr. Seuss books. The kids created "eyes" from The Eye Book using banana slices with black beans, berries and almonds for the pupils. The Truffula trees from The Lorax were created using half a banana with cranberry tops. The kids made a red fish and blue fish by cutting them out of tortillas and painting them using a mixture of food coloring and water. For vegetables a Seuss inspired patterned hat was created by alternating carrots and green beans on top of cups. And finally came the milk which had to be changed purple because as a child said, "Dr. Seuss would never have plain milk!"

We worked together to make our green eggs incorporating predicting, then color mixing and stirring up the eggs. All of the children tasted the green eggs, and most asked for more.

Started our Dr. Seuss unit . We made Dr. Seuss door knob hanger and watched -Horton Hatches An Egg -on You Tube @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hwbozdOyJs.
We have love bird named Horton, she had 4 eggs last week, so we had special Dr. Seuss week this year. I showed them a picture of Horton and her eggs, she had 4 eggs total. All week we will be doing Dr. Seuss activities and on Friday 3/2/12 we will celebrate his birthday with green eggs and ham for breakfast!

Print fish template. Cut out in construction paper
Laminate. Cut out again. Add features such as eyes, eyelashes etc... We hung them up, then read the book. Was the first time they have ever heard this story as they are age 3 and younger. By the end of the story, they were saying all of their colors, counting the fish and enjoying the book! Be prepared to read a couple of times.
