A Little About What to Expect at the CCFP Conference, 2011:

The Child Care Food Program Roundtable’s 20th Annual CACFP Conference, “CACFP MAGIC: Pledge the Practice, Pass the Policy,” is October 17-19 in Anaheim.  Since 1992, the CCFP Roundtable has sponsored a highly successful fall CACFP conference which attracts 350-400 participants from California and throughout the country.   One of the premiere event of its kind, the Roundtable’s Annual CACFP Conference provides training in several areas including: nutrition, health & wellness, childhood obesity prevention, as well as CACFP program issues.  It is known for its top level speakers and workshop presenters who provide cutting-edge information, training and policy/advocacy updates. 

Speakers this year...

So far this year we have commitments from Kate Dupont Phillips, MPH, from Nemours; Patty Kimbrell, MEd, a consultant working with “I Am Moving, I Am Learning” for Head Start; Michele Buran, MA, from CSU Chico Center for Nutrition & Activity Promotion; Jennifer June Balogh, MPH, MSW, from Healthy & Active Before 5.  We are still working on a presenter for Let’s Move Child Care.

A Little History

In the past we have presented speakers such as: Connie Evers, MS, RD, nationally recognized nutrition education consultant, author and frequent guest on radio and television programs; Ellyn Satter, nationally recognized author and lecturer; Dr. Antronette Yancey, Associate Professor in the Department of Health Services at UCLA School of Public Health; Dr. Harold Goldstein, Director of the California Center for Public Health Advocacy; Dayle Hayes, an award-winning author, educator and pioneer dietitian in electronic nutrition communications; Drs. Laurel Branen and Janice Fletcher from the University of Idaho School of Family and Consumer Sciences and Dr. Susan Johnson, Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center; Barbara Storper, director and founder of FOODPLAY Productions, an Emmy Award-winning nutrition and health theater and video company;  Dr. Lorrene Ritchie, Director of Research at the U.C Berkeley Center for Weight and Health; and Dr. Shannon Whaley, Director of Research and Evaluation at Public Health Foundation Enterprises WIC.

On Tuesday the 18th at 2:30 p.m.

Guided Tour of Minute Menu Systems, your passport to success in CACFP!  Cindy Vian.  We’ll travel around the world of CACFP in a virtual network of tools that work together with experienced staff to ensure the highest level of integrity is achieved.  From tracking child information to menu development, to attendance and meal counts, to site reviews, claims processing, payments and so much more!  On Tuesday the 18th at 10:45 a.m.

Recruiting and Retaining Centers in CACFP.  Cindy Vian and Justin Rausa, Nutrition Advocate Intern, California Food Policy Advocates.  Sponsors of unaffiliated centers must recruit new centers consistently in order to grow their programs and avoid shrinking!  We’ll cover a variety of best practices gleaned from successful sponsoring organizations across the nation!  From identifying prospects, marketing ideas and creating “buzz” about your program, to handling objections!  We’ll share with you what the experts are saying works to recruit new centers and the “magic” that keeps them on the program year after year!  You don’t want to miss this opportunity to launch your new Program Year in a big way!  On Monday the 17th at 3:30 p.m.

Home Visit Best Practices, Betty Gardner and Jenny Boston. The USDA recently issued a policy memo on varied timing of unannounced CACFP reviews.  Learn how to plan and schedule your reviews to meet the USDA guidelines, as well as other important aspects of planning and conducting reivews:  5 Day Attendance Reconciliation, visiting meals and weekends in the right proportion to levels claimed, implementing review averaging and more!  This workshop is specifically designed for agencies who use Minute Menu HX.  On Wednesday the 19th at 1:00 p.m.

CACFP and Social Media, Samantha Daleiden.  Are you trying to get the word out about CACFP?  Learn how your CACFP agency can use social media to benefit you and CACFP!  Get a plan, see who you can reach, how can you reach them, stay up-to-date with CACFP news and learn how we can educate all about the importance and relevance of CACFP through social media.  On Tuesday the 18th at 10:45 a.m.
