Q.  What is the most challenging thing about owning your own business?
A.  Long hours and the constant pull I feel between work and family.

Q.  What is your favorite activity to do with the children?
A.  
  • Story time!!!!!! I love reading to them. 
  • I love hearing the things they learn; and
  • The little stories they share with me about their life.  Most of them I could never repeat...lol.

Q.  What is the most rewarding thing about your job?
A.  Doing something I love!!!! And hoping I never want to stop doing it!!!!!!!

Q.  What is your favorite part about caring for the kiddos?
A.  My favorite part is knowing that I am making a difference…no matter how small it may be.

Q.  What do you do to relax?
A.
  • Reading,
  • Watching TV,
  • Spending time with my family.

Q.  What would you tell parents to look for when they are looking for quality child care?
A.  
  • Always go with what feels right
  • Find the program that fits your child’s or family needs best
  • Don’t try to conform your child to the program
  • Find a program that with work with  you or your child’s special or unique needs

Q.  How long have you been in business?
A.  I opened in Fall of 1997.  After the birth of my second child in 2003, we relocated to Oxford where we have been ever since.

Q.  What is one of the hardest things about your job?
A.  Never having time off. 
I can’t just take a day off or go in late.  Everything has to be planned.  Most parents can leave work and take their kids to the doctor, or go on a field trip.  I can’t because everything has to be planned out. 

Also, its hard on my kids sharing Mom. 
They have to wait.  I can’t just drop what I’m doing to meet their every demand.  But that builds character… right?

Q.  What is the number one thing you want to share with people about child care?
A.  I will never become rich doing this…but that’s okay!
Sometimes rewards don’t come in dollar signs…(but it would be nice if they all did) :)

Samantha is, just like you, excited to make a difference in our community and our world. With a Master of Arts degree in English Literature, you might ask how she found herself building and writing for a website focused on child care. From 1995 through 2001, Samantha started her career working for Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) sponsors which introduced her to the importance of non-profits, community and quality child care. Her experience with Sponsors, State Officials, and Family Child Care Providers left a great and lasting impression. Later in her career and her most recent position at SAGE Publications, an academic publisher, was as a product manager for a new online resource! During this time many of Samantha's passions collided. A love for the written word, children and the proliferation of knowledge as well as a fascination with the resources the internet gives us, building a community for child care on ChildCareInfo.com is the perfect way to make the difference she wanted to.  Needless to say, she is very excited to be an active part of creating and building ChildCareInfo.com.
