Online Professional Development and Training for ECE Professionals

Professional development is hard to attain for child care professionals.  You work all day with the children and then need to find time at nights or on weekends to further develop professionally. There are a variety of reasons professional learning needs to be easily accessible, varietal and credible for the child care field.  Some of those reasons might be, but are certainly not limited to:

  • Federal regulation in order to accept subsidy payments (under the new CCDBG rule),
  • State regulation for subsidy, to get licensed/registered or to maintain that status, and;
  • Continuing education requirements for accreditations or credentials.

Many organizations have realized the need for training that is affordable, accessible, and relevant. Listed below are some options to look into.

  • Better Kid Care has developed a wide range of trainings for child care professionals. Some are directed to the family child care provider and many are for child care professionals in general.  You can access these courses for free and then pay a nominal fee for the continuing education unit(s).  They even have a state map to show where their courses will meet state specific requirements.  Notable here, as well, is the Health and Safety Basics Requirements.  This training is produced to meet the requirements of the new CCDBG health and safety training requirements.  Find out if your state approves this training for your requirements.
  • Early Childhood Investigations Webinars  offers professional development opportunitiesthat transcend the obstacles of distance, time, and money by offering conference-quality early childhood webinars.  These webinars are produced regularly and if you can’t make it during the time it is offered, you can sign up and they will send you the recording. Certificates and CEUs are now available as well!
